Letter from President Poorten

Dear Members:

As we approach the beginning of the 2007-2008 session of the Morris K. Udall Inn of Court, I want to share with you information about our Inn and our monthly meetings.

We have 76 active members comprised of 28 Masters (those with over 15 years of practice), 14 Barristers (those with 6-15 years of practice), 20 Associates (those with less than 6 years of practice), and 14 law students.

Assigned Seating:

We are continuing the practice of having assigned seats to encourage socializing and mixing between members. The assigned seating will change for each meeting. As with last year’s first meeting, the Pupillages will be seated together for the first meeting. At each table, an attorney will serve as table host to facilitate introductions and interactions before the meeting starts, which we hope to do promptly at 6:00 p.m.

First Meeting:

The first Inn meeting will be on Tuesday, October 2, 2007 at The Hotel Congress. The meetings will start at 5:00 p.m. with drinks and socializing in the hotel lobby. At 5:45 p.m., members will move to the banquet room.

For those of you who have not been downtown in some time, please note that Congress is closed off in front of The Hotel Congress and therefore, westbound traffic on Congress has been rerouted onto Broadway which is now a two-way street between 4th and 5th Avenues. The large parking lot at the east end of Congress next to the Rialto Theatre, however, remains open. The entrance to the parking lot entrance is on Broadway.

Webpage:

I remind you to please check our Inn’s website at http://udallinn.org which has a link to American Inns of Court website at http://www.innsofcourt.org.

Dues:

I urge those of you who have not yet paid your dues to please do so now. Additionally, I ask that you and your firms consider making a tax deductible contribution to our Inn. Your generosity would be appreciated and recognized at our meetings and on the Inn’s webpage.

Dinner Selections:

As a result of our Inn’s sound financial management, dues have been kept at a modest level. You can assist us in continuing to watch costs by responding promptly to the e-mail you will receive the week before each meeting asking you to confirm your attendance and dinner selection.

If you have any questions about the above matters, please call me. Otherwise, I look forward to seeing everyone at the October 2, 2007 meeting.

Sincerely,
William N. Poorten, III
President, Morris K. Udall Inn of Court
